The Sea of Galilee Tiberias Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Tiberias, Israel. The official name of the event is Sea of Galilee Tiberias International Winner Marathon. About 4.500 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.120 runners completed marathon and 1.485 finished half marathon in 2020).
The first Tiberias Marathon was established in 1977 and became Israel’s first international marathon competition.
The Sea of Galilee (יָם כִּנֶּרֶת), aka Lake Tiberias, Kinneret or Kinnereth, is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth, so the Tiberias Marathon is deemed the world’s “lowest” marathon: its’ course levels between 208 and 191 m below sea level.

The marathon race of 26.2mi/42.195km starts at 7:30 1 January 2021 (Friday) from Ha-Banim Street in Tiberias.
Age limit: from 20 years old on the race date.
Half Marathon race, 13.1mi/21.097km
The half marathon race of 13.1mi/21.097km starts together with the marathon at 7:30 1 January 2021 (Friday) from Ha-Banim Street in Tiberias.
Age limit: from 16 years old on the race date.
10km Race
The 10km race starts at 8:05 1 January 2021 (Friday) from Ha-Banim Street in Tiberias.
Age limit: from 14 years old on the race date.
Entry fee: from 29 € (110 ILS).
The roundtrip course of the Tiberias Marathon 2021 traces the Sea of Galilee’s shoreline against a rustic landscape, along the Barniki and Shikmim Beaches, crosses the historically significant Jordan River and turns back to Tiberias, the capital of Galilee, at Kibutz Ein-Gev.
The route is set on asphalt and traffic-free roads.
Altitude range of the marathon distance is 17 m, total climb is 265 m, total descent is 259 m.
The course of the Tiberias Half Marathon 2021 partly coincides with the marathon route; it turns back to Tiberias near the Tzemach Beach.
Altitude range of the half marathon distance is 16 m, total climb is 151 m, total descent is 146 m.
Start for all races of the Tiberias Marathon 2021 is on Ha-Banim Street in Tiberias.
Finish is on Ha-Galil Street near Shim’on Garden in Tiberias.

The participants of the Tiberias Marathon and Half Marathon 2021 are divided into starting blocks according to the results of the previous races. The starting block is indicated on the bib number.
Time limit for completing the marathon is 6 hours, for the half marathon distance — 3 hours.
The pace makers of the Tiberias Marathon and Half Marathon 2021 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. The pace makers can be recognized by their outfit marked with the corresponding finish time. Target times for marathon are following: 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15, 5:30. These are half marathon target times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30.
Water and nutrition stations are located approximately every 3km of the route beginning at km 5. The stations provide runners with drinking water, isotonic drink, energy gel, refreshing sponges.
Before the start you may leave your personal belongings in Archaeological Garden near the start line. The bag deposit is available from 6:00 till 15:00 1 January 2021 (Friday). Only small bags are accepted; nobody is liable in case of loss or theft.
The route of the Tiberias Marathon 2021 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

To get your Race Pack you should show your ID with photo.
No health certificate is required to enter any race of the Tiberias Marathon 2021. At bib number pick-up you should sign the declaration of your health condition.
