The Bahamas Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Nassau, island of New Providence, The Bahamas. The official name of the event is Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas. Around 2,000 athletes participate in the marathon race and other competitions. In 2020, 95 runners completed the marathon, and 379 finished the half marathon.

From 2021 to 2023, the Bahamas Marathon was not held as an in-person competition. Runners from 31 U.S. states and 19 countries took part in the races of Marathon Bahamas 2020.

The Marathon Bahamas is an official Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Events and Activities

Marathon race, 26.2mi/42.195km (Marathon Bahamas)

The marathon race, covering a distance of 26.2mi/42.195km, starts at 6:00 on 14 January 2024 (Sunday) at Western Esplanade, close to Arawak Cay Oceanfront, Nassau.

Age limit: at least 18 years old on the race date.

Half Marathon race, 13.1mi/21.097km

The half marathon race, spanning a distance of 13.1 mi/21.097 km, commences simultaneously with the marathon at 6:00 on 14 January 2024 (Sunday) at Western Esplanade, close to Arawak Cay Oceanfront, Nassau.

Age limit: at least 16 years old on the race date.

Course

The course of the Marathon Bahamas 2024 mainly follows the oceanfront, passing through scenic downtown Nassau, the Cruise Port, Paradise Island, business districts, and beaches.

Course of the Bahamas Marathon and Half Marathon 2024

The course of the Bahamas Half Marathon 2024 coincides with a portion of the marathon distance. The turnaround point to the finish line is at the second roundabout on the Cable Beach Highway.

All races of the Marathon Bahamas 2024 start and finish at Western Esplanade, close to Arawak Cay Oceanfront, in Nassau.

The time limit for completing the marathon or the half marathon is 6 hours, with additional limits applied at certain points on the course.

Water and nutrition stations are located every mile of the route starting at mile two and at the finish. These stations provide runners with drinking water, GU energy gel. Finishers get cold bottled water, a variety of food selections.

Before the start on 14 January 2024 (Sunday), you may leave your personal belongings at the Gear Check area near the start line. Your belongings must be packed in an event-issued deposit bag, and you should attach your Gear Check stub to your bag. The stub and the bag are included in your Race Pack along with your bib number. The Gear Check closes at 13:30.

The route of the Marathon Bahamas 2024 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

The entry fee for the Marathon Bahamas 2024 varies depending on the date of purchase:
until 31 May 2023 — $80,
from 1 June to 31 August 2023 — $90,
from 1 September to 30 November 2023 — $100,
from 1 December 2023 to 12 January 2024 — $110,
13 January 2024 at expo — $125.

The entry fee for the Bahamas Half Marathon 2024 varies depending on the date of purchase:

from 1 June to 31 August 2023 — $80,

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

You may pick up the Race Pack with your bib number at the Marathon Bahamas Packet Pickup. Please check the exact location on the event website.
Pick-up desk schedule:
13 January 2024 (Saturday) from 15:00 to 19:00.

To get your Race Pack you should show your photo ID.

You may authorize another person to collect your Race Pack. The collecting person needs to present a copy of your ID.

No health certificate is required to participate in any race of the Marathon Bahamas 2024.
