The Daufuskie Island Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held on Daufuskie Island, state of South Carolina, USA. The official name of the event is Daufuskie Island Marathon. Around 350 athletes participate in the marathon race and other competitions. In 2023, 137 runners completed the marathon, and 217 finished the half marathon.

The Daufuskie Island Marathon is an official Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Course

The course of the Daufuskie Island Marathon 2024 is an out-and-back route covering 13.1 miles (21.097 kilometers); marathoners take 2 loops, while half marathon participants run 1 loop.

The route takes runners through both paved (90% of the course) and unpaved roads in the north and central parts of Daufuskie Island, offering views of Calibogue Sound, the deep channel between Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands.

Throughout the course, participants pass by many of Daufuskie Island’s highlights, including Haig Point Lighthouse, Freeport, Daufuskie Marsh Tacky Society, Tabby Circle overlooking the Atlantic, and the “Painted Houses” off Driftwood Cottage Lane.

Although the course takes place on open roads, traffic is very scarce. Golf carts are more likely to be seen on the roads than cars.

The start and finish for all races of the Daufuskie Island Marathon 2024 are located on Lighthouse Lane, at the end of the plantar intersection with Lighthouse Court in Haig Point, Daufuskie Island.

The finish closes at 16:30.

Runners get pre-race coffee and breakfast at the food tent located near the Start and Finish Line.

During the loop, there are three water and nutrition stations available. These stations provide runners with drinking water and GU Energy products. Finishers also receive lunch and drinks.

Prior to the start on 13 January 2024 (Saturday), you may leave your personal belongings at the bag drop tent near the Start and Finish Line. Make sure your bag is clearly marked with your name and bib number. After the race, show your bib number to retrieve your bag.

To get to Daufuskie Island, you can either take a private boat or a ferry from Hilton Head Island Embarkation (10 Haig Point ct, Hilton Head, SC 29928) to Haig Point’s Daufuskie Island Landing. The ferry fee is $49.5 for a roundtrip. There is a special ferry for runners and race staff only, departing at 6:00 and 6:30 on 13 January 2024 (Saturday). Spectators can catch the ferry at 7:30 and later.

A shuttle service is provided from the Haig Point South Gate to the race start every twenty minutes starting at 6:30 on race day. The shuttle also takes runners back to the South Gate every hour, starting at 12:00.

The route of the Daufuskie Island Marathon 2024 is certified by the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field (USATF).

You can sign up for the races of the Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half Marathon 2024 online.

Online registration is open until 10 January 2024.

The entry fee for the Daufuskie Island Marathon 2024 varies depending on the date of purchase:
until 4 September 2023 — $136,
from 4 September to 28 December 2023 — $151,
from 29 December 2023 to 10 January 2024 — $166.

The entry fee does not include a sign up fee, which is approximately 6.6% of the entry fee.

The entry fee for the Daufuskie Island Half Marathon 2024 varies depending on the date of purchase:
until 4 September 2023 — $116,
from 4 September to 28 December 2023 — $126,
from 29 December 2023 to 10 January 2024 — $136.

Additionally, a sign up fee, approximately 6.6% of the entry fee, is charged.

There are no bridges connecting the mainland to Daufuskie Island. Runners are ferried over by boat from 10 Haig Point Court and Buckingham Landing in Hilton Head, SC. The ferry fee for a round trip is $49.5.

Distance upgrades/downgrades can be made up until 12 January 2024.

13 January 2024 (Saturday) on race morning from 7:00 to 8:30 on Daufuskie Island near the Start & Finish Line.

To collect your Race Pack, please present your photo ID.

You also have the option to authorize another person to collect your Race Pack on your behalf.

No health certificate is required to participate in any race of the Daufuskie Island Marathon 2024.
