The New Year Zurich Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Zurich, Switzerland. The official name of the event is Neujahrsmarathon Zürich. About 1 100 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (116 completed marathon and 234 finished half marathon in 2022).

In 2021 the New Year Zurich Marathon was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

The New Year Zurich Marathon is the first in the calendar of running events certified by AIMS. The winners of the races (including national best time) hold World Athletics/AIMS world leading times as of 1 January. We are the champions, my friend. At least till the next AIMS certified running competition.

The New Year Zurich Marathon entry fee is the smallest of the Switzerland marathons.

Age limit: born in 2009 and earlier.

Quarter Marathon race, 6.5mi/10.548km

The quarter marathon race of 6.5mi/10.548km starts together with the marathon at 0:00 1 January 2023 (Sunday) inside the sports hall «Unterrohr» in Schlieren (Unterrohrstrasse 2, 8952 Schlieren).

Age limit: born in 2013 and earlier.

Course

The course of the New Year Zurich Marathon (Neujahrsmarathon Zürich) 2023 is a lap of 6.5mi/10.548km (quarter marathon) along the river Limmat.

According to the chosen distance the runner makes 1, 2 or 4 laps. In the end of each lap the runner goes through the sports hall «Unterrohr» in Schlieren (Unterrohrstrasse 2, 8952 Schlieren).

The course is 90% natural surface, 10% asphalt. Total climb is 19 m per lap.

Kilometer markers are positioned at each km of the course.

The course is not illuminated. Headlamps are recommended.

The time limit for completing the marathon is 5 hours. The last lap is to be started not later than at 3:45. The limit may be expanded in case of bad weather.

Water and nutrition stations are located every 3.1mi/5km of the route and at the finish. Warm carbohydrate drinks, energy bars, bananas, energy gel, Coca Cola and water are available for the runners.

Small valuables (keys, mobile phones, wallets) can be left for safekeeping at the information desk inside the sports hall «Unterrohr» in Schlieren (Unterrohrstrasse 2, 8952 Schlieren). No bag deposit is available.

On 31 December 2022 (Saturday) starting from 19:00 a restaurant offers meals and beverages in the sports hall «Unterrohr» where the races start and finish.

The route of the New Year Zurich Marathon (Neujahrsmarathon Zürich) 2023 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Registration

You may sign up for races of the New Year Zurich Marathon (Neujahrsmarathon Zürich) 2023 online.

The online registration is open till 27 December 2022 or till the slots last (for the quarter marathon and the half marathon).

If slots are available you may sign up for the races 31 December 2022 from 19:00 till 23:00 in the sports hall «Unterrohr» in Schlieren (Unterrohrstrasse 2, 8952 Schlieren) if slots are still available.

The entry fee for the New Year Zurich Marathon (Neujahrsmarathon Zürich) 2023 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 31 October 2022 — €58 (CHF 60);
from 1 November till 17 December 2022 — €68 (CHF 70);
18—27 December 2022 — €77 (CHF 80);
31 December 2022 (late registration) — €87 (CHF 90).

The entry fee for the New Year Zurich Half Marathon 2023 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 31 October 2022 — €39 (CHF 40);
from 1 November till 17 December 2022 — €48 (CHF 50);
18—27 December 2022 — €58 (CHF 60);
31 December 2022 (late registration) — €68 (CHF 70).

The time is measured using electronic DataChips which are fixed on the race bibs. If you don’t return the chip after the race you will be charged €39 (CHF 40).

Promotion 1+1: bring a volunteer and start for free! A volunteer registered before 17 December 2022 may fill in the comment field (Kommentar) the runner’s information and get a free entry for him.

You may switch to a shorter distance during the race and be classified on the new distance.

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

  • Changing rooms before and after the race
  • Shower after the race
  • Online race results
  • Digital race certificate with indicated finish time
  • Medical aid if necessary

You may order at extra charge:

You may pick up the Race Pack with your bib number in the sports hall «Unterrohr» in Schlieren (Unterrohrstrasse 2, 8952 Schlieren).

To get your Race Pack you should show your photo ID.

No health certificate is required to enter any race of the New Year Zurich Marathon (Neujahrsmarathon Zürich) 2022.
