The Charleston Half Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Charleston, state of South Carolina, USA. The official name of the event is the PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon. Approximately 4,000 athletes participate in the marathon race and other competitions (2,587 finished half marathon in 2023).

In 2021 and 2022, the Charleston Marathon was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Virtual races were held instead.

Starting from 2023, the marathon distance is no longer included in the races held in Charleston.

The 3.1mi/5km race starts at 8:30 on 20 January 2024 (Saturday) at Spruill Avenue in North Charleston.

Course

The course of the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 goes through the streets and parks of Charleston and North Charleston, running alongside the Ashley River.

Highlights of the course:

  • Hampton Park, the largest park on the Charleston peninsula;
  • The Citadel, one of the United States’ six senior military colleges, established in 1842;
  • The Battery, a fortified seawall and promenade located in the heart of Charleston’s historic district;
  • King Street, the main thoroughfare that connects Charleston Harbor to the uptown area;
  • Riverfront Park on the banks of the Cooper River;
  • Firefly Distillery, Charleston’s oldest working distillery.

The start line for the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 is located on Fishburne Street in front of Burke High School (244 President St, Charleston).

The finish line is at Firefly Distillery, Charleston’s oldest working distillery, situated at 4201 Spruill Avenue in North Charleston.

The time limit for completing the half marathon is 3 hours and 30 minutes. Additional time limits are applied at certain points of the course.

The pacemakers of the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 provide the necessary pace to help participants finish within specific times. The target finish times for the half marathon are as follows: 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, and 3:00 hours.

There are 6 water and nutrition stations located along the half marathon route. These stations provide runners with drinking water, sports drinks, and energy gels.

Before the start on 20 January 2024 (Saturday) until 7:30, you may leave your personal belongings at the gear check area near the start zone. Your belongings must be packed in a deposit bag, and you should attach a tag with your race number to the bag. The tag and bag are included in your Race Pack along with your bib number. The bags are transported to the finishing area and are available for pickup until 13:30.

The route of the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 is certified by the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field (USATF).

You can sign up for the races of the Charleston Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 online.

Online registration registration is open until slots are filled.

The entry fee for the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024 varies depending on the date of purchase:
until 31 May 2023 — $60,
from 1 June to 14 August 2023 — $75,
from 15 August to 11 September 2023 — $85,
from 12 September to 9 October 2023 — $95,
from 10 October to 6 November 2023 — $105,
from 7 November to 11 December 2023 — $115,
from 12 December 2023 — $125.

If the event is cancelled due to COVID-19, the entry fee (minus taxes and fees) is awarded as race credit to be used for future Capstone Races.

You have the option to switch to another distance (with an applicable surcharge, if any) or defer your registration in the form of race credit to be spent on future Capstone Races. More info is here.

19 January 2024 (Friday) from 10:00 to 20:00.

To receive your Race Pack, you must present your photo ID.

You may authorize another person to collect your Race Pack. The person collecting it needs to present a copy of your ID (either electronic or printed).

No health certificate is required to participate in any race of the Charleston Half Marathon (PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon) 2024.
