The Charleston Half Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Charleston, state of South Carolina, USA. The official name of the event is Charleston Half Marathon. About 4.000 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (862 runners completed marathon and 2.389 finished half marathon in 2020).
In 2021 and 2022, the Charleston Marathon was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Virtual races were held instead.
From 2023, marathon distance is excluded from the races held in Charleston.

The half marathon race of 13.1mi/21.097km starts at 7:30 14 January 2023 (Saturday) on Fishburne Street in front of Burke High School (244 President St, Charleston).
3.1mi/5km Race (Shrimp and Grits 5k)
The 3.1mi/5km race starts at 8:30 14 January 2023 (Saturday) at Bexley Street and Aragon Avenue in North Charleston.
Entry fee: $30—50.
Kids Race, 1mi/1.6km (Charleston Youth Marathon)
The kids race starts at 13:00 14 January 2023 (Saturday) at 4201 Spruill Avenue in North Charleston.
All participants get a T-shirt and finisher medal.
No age limit. An adult must accompany the child who is younger than 7 years old, on the course.
Registration is free.
The course of the Charleston Half Marathon 2023 tracks through the streets and parks of Charleston and North Charleston, along the Ashley River.
Highlights of the course:
- Hampton Park, the largest park on the Charleston peninsula;
- The Citadel, one of six United States senior military colleges, was established in 1842;
- The Battery, a fortified seawall and promenade in the heart of Charleston’s historic district;
- King Street, the spine of the city connecting the Charleston Harbor to uptown;
- Riverfront Park on the banks of the Cooper River.
- Firefly Distillery, Charleston’s oldest working distillery.
The course of the Charleston Half Marathon 2023 coincides with the first half of the marathon route.

Start line for the Charleston Half Marathon 2023 is on Fishburne Street in front of Burke High School (244 President St, Charleston).
The finish is at Charleston’s oldest working distillery, Firefly Distillery, located at 4201 Spruill Avenue in North Charleston.

The time limit for completing the half marathon is 4 hours. Additional limits are applied for certain points of the course.
The pace makers of the Charleston Half Marathon 2023 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. Finish times for half marathon are following: 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00 hours.
6 water and nutrition stations are located at the half marathon route. The stations provide runners with drinking water, Sports Drink, energy gel.
Before the start 14 January 2023 (Saturday) until 7:30, you may leave your personal belongings at the gear check area near the start zone. The stuff must be packed in a deposit bag, you should attach to your bag a tag that has your race number on it. The tag and the bag are included in your Race Pack along with your bib number. The bags are transported to the finishing area and are available for pickup until 13:30.
The route of the Charleston Half Marathon 2023 is certified by the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field (USATF).
