The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held on the island of Maui, state of Hawaii, USA. The official name of the event is Maui Oceanfront Marathon. Around 1,500 athletes participate in the marathon race and other competitions. In 2023, 342 runners completed the marathon, and 483 finished the half marathon.

The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is an official Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Marathon race, 26.2mi/42.195km (Maui Oceanfront Marathon)

The marathon race, covering a distance of 26.2mi/42.195km, starts in the morning at 4:00, 4:40 and 5:00 AM (main race) on 14 January 2024 (Sunday) from the north parking lot of The Shops at Wailea (3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753).

Half Marathon race, 13.1mi/21.097km

The half marathon race, spanning a distance of 13.1 mi/21.097 km, commences in three waves at 6:35 AM, at 6:40 AM, and at 6:45 AM on 14 January 2024 (Sunday) at 525 Front Street in Lahaina.

6.2mi/10km Race (10K)

The 6.2mi/10km race starts at 6:55 on 14 January 2024 (Sunday) at 525 Front Street in Lahaina.

Course

The course of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024 runs north along the oceanfront, starting from Wailea and passing through Kihei, the Kealia ponds, the whale-infested Maalaea Bay, the Pali, Papalaua beach, Olowalu beach, Launiupoko beach, and Puamana Park, until reaching the south end of Lahaina, famous for its largest banyan tree in Hawaii.

The course mainly follows the shoulder of the road, as well as the sidewalk and bike path. The first 1.5 miles and the last 3.5 miles of the course are closed to traffic.

There are yellow paint course markers placed at every mile of the route, indicating the distance remaining.

For safety purposes, marathoners are required to have a headlamp. If needed, you can purchase a used headlamp for $10 at the packet pick-up.

The Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon 2024 is an out-and-back race, with its course coinciding with the last quarter of the marathon route.

The start line for the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024 is located in the north parking lot of The Shops at Wailea (3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753).

The start line for the Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon 2024 and the finish line for all the races are located on Front Street at the south end of Old Lahaina Town, near Malu Ulu Olele Park and the beachfront Kamehameha Iki Park.

The time limit for completing the marathon or the half marathon is 7 hours.

There are 18 water and nutrition stations along the marathon route and 9 stations along the half marathon route. These stations provide runners with drinking water, Ultima Replenisher isotonic, Cliff Bars, cookies, fruit, candy, and Clif Shot Bloks energy gel. Finishers receive snacks and Ultima Replenisher isotonic drinks.

Before the start on 14 January 2024 (Sunday), you can leave your personal belongings near the finish line in Lahaina, behind the Hale near the toilets.

The route of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), by the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field (USATF).

You can sign up for the races of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024 online.

Online registration is open until slots are filled.

The entry fee for the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024 starts from $135.

The entry fee for the Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon 2024 starts from $125.

The entry fees may increase as the race day approaches.

Discounts are available for members of certain clubs, active military personnel, residents of Maui, seniors over 60, and youth aged 17 and under.

You can switch to another distance online until 16 December 2023, with a surcharge if applicable, or at the Race Pack pick-up on 12-13 January 2024. Until 16 December 2023, it is possible to defer part of your entry fee to the following year. More info is here.

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

You can pick up your Race Pack, including your bib number, at the following locations and times:
12 January 2024 (Friday) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hale Pau Hana, located at 2480 S. Kihei Rd in the Wailea, Kihei area (2.8 miles on the Marathon route);
13 January 2024 (Saturday) from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the lobby meeting room of Pioneer Inn (658 Wharf St, Lahaina).

To receive your Race Pack, you must show your photo ID.

No health certificate is required to participate in any race of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2024.
