The Tromsø Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Tromsø, Norway. The official name of the event is Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon. About 6.000 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.022 runners completed marathon and 1.278 finished half marathon in 2019).

In the beginning of the year, when the sun does not rise above the horizon, you may run the Tromsø Polar Night Marathon and Half Marathon.

In 2020 the Tromsø Midnight Sun races were cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus, it was possible to take part in a virtual race.

The marathon race of 26.2mi/42.195km starts at 20:30 in the evening 19 June 2021 (Saturday) from Grønnegata Street near Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus).

Age limit: from 18 years old on 31 December 2021.

Half Marathon race, 13.1mi/21.097km (Mizuno Halvmaraton)

The half marathon race of 13.1mi/21.097km starts at 22:30 in the evening 19 June 2021 (Saturday) from Grønnegata Street near Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus).

Age limit: from 16 years old on 31 December 2021.

10km Race (TINE Mila)

The 10km race starts at 19:00 in the evening 19 June 2021 (Saturday) from Grønnegata Street near Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus).

Age limit: from 12 years old on 31 December 2021.

Entry fee: 44—58 € (470—620 NOK).

Course

The course of the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2021 tracks through Tromsø streets in Tromsdalen on the mainland and the island of Tromsøya. It crosses twice the Tromsøysundet strait along the Tromsø Bridge (Tromsøbrua), a cantilever road bridge 1.036-metre-long.

There is a course marker for every kilometer of the marathon and half marathon route, counting down (from 42 km to 1 km).

The course of the Tromsø Half Marathon (Mizuno Halvmaraton) 2021 coincides with the second part of the marathon distance, which is on the island of Tromsøya. It goes out to the airport area and follows the same route back to the city center.

Start for all races of the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2021 is on Grønnegata Street, close to Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus).

Finish is near the start — on Storgata Street, the main street of the city.

Time limit for completing the marathon is 5 hours 30 minutes, for the half marathon distance — 3 hours 30 minutes.

Water and nutrition stations are located every 5km of the route and at the finish. The stations provide runners with drinking water, isotonic drink Maxim Sport, fruit, energy gel.

Before the start you may leave your personal belongings 19 June 2021 (Saturday) in the deposit area at Kulturhuset (Erling Bangsunds plass 1, Tromsø). The stuff must be packed in a bag, marked with a sticker that has your race number on it (it is included in your Race Pack along with your bib number).

You may change and have a shower from 18:00 19 June 2021 (Saturday) till 3:00 20 June 2021 (Sunday) close to the finish area in the sport complex Gyllenborghallen (Skolegata 36, 9008 Tromsø).

The route of the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon and Half Marathon (Mizuno Halvmaraton) 2021 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Registration

You may sign up for races of the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2021 online.

The online registration is open till 17 June 2021 or till the slots last.

If slots are available you may sign up 18—19 June 2021 (Friday — Saturday), including the race day, in Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus, Rådhusgata 2, Tromsø).

The entry fee for the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 31 January 2021 — 81 € (870 NOK);
from 1 February till 30 April 2021 — 91 € (970 NOK);
1—31 May 2021 — 100 € (1070 NOK);
from 1 June 2021 — 105 € (1120 NOK).

The entry fee for the Tromsø Half Marathon (Mizuno Halvmaraton) 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 31 January 2021 — 56 € (595 NOK);
from 1 February till 30 April 2021 — 65 € (695 NOK);
1—31 May 2021 — 74 € (795 NOK);
from 1 June 2021 — 79 € (845 NOK).

If slots are available you may switch to another distance (with surcharge if applicable) 18—19 June 2021 (Friday — Saturday) in Tromsø Town Hall (Tromsø Rådhus, Rådhusgata 2, Tromsø).

You may transfer your registration to the next year in case of injury or illness. Then you need to send a medical certificate within a week after the race day and to pay a transfer fee of 10 € (100 NOK). More info is here.

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

19 June 2021 (Saturday) on race day from 10:00.

To get your Race Pack you should show your ID with photo, confirmation letter (sent via e-mail).

No health certificate is required to enter any race of the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2021.
