The Munster Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Munster, Germany. The official name of the event is Volksbank-Münster-Marathon. About 10.000 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.728 runners completed marathon in 2019).

The Munster Marathon is a member of German Road Races group.

In 2020 the Munster Marathon was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

The relay team consists of 4 members: the 1st runs 10.5km, the 2nd — 11km, the 3rd — 10km, and the last — 10.7km.

Start of the Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 is at Schlossplatz Square in front of baroque Schloss Munster (Fürstbischöfliche Schloss) which belongs to the University of Munster (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität).

Finish for all races of the Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 is at Prinzipalmarkt Street, next to one of the city’s predominant landmark, the Historical City Hall of Munster (Historisches Rathaus Münster), the site of the Peace of Westphalia negotiations in XVII century, the independence of the Seven United Netherlands was proclaimed there.

The Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 participants are divided into 4 starting blocks according to the results of the previous races. The starting block is color indicated on the bib number.

Time limit for completing the marathon is 5 hours 30 minutes. Finish zone closes at 14:30.

The pace makers of the Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. The pace makers can be recognized by balloons marked with the corresponding finish time. Target times for marathon are 2:45, 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30 hours.

Water and nutrition stations are located every 2.5km of the route beginning at km 5 and at the finish. The stations provide runners with drinking water, isotonic drink, fruit, Cola.

Before the start runners may leave their personal belongings from 7:30 till 17:00 12 September 2021 (Sunday) at the deposit area, in the school Gymnasium Paulinum (Am Stadtgraben 30, 48143, Münster). After finish, you may change and have shower there.

The route of the Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and by the German Athletics Association (Deutschen Leichtathletik-Verbande).

The online registration is open till 6 September 2021.

If slots are available you may sign up for the races 10—11 September 2021 in the school Gymnasium Paulinum (Am Stadtgraben 30, 48143, Münster).

The entry fee for the Munster Marathon (Volksbank-Münster-Marathon) 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 1 May 2021 — €59;
from 16 May till 1 August 2021 — €69,
from 2 August 2021 — €79.

Students get €10 discount.

You may participate in team competition if you mark your team while registering.
