The Lisbon Half Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Lisbon, Portugal. The official name of the event is EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa. About 35.000 athletes take part in half marathon race and other competitions (10.607 completed half-marathon in 2019).

The Lisbon Half Marathon is in Superhalfs series along with half marathons in Prague (Sportisimo 1/2Maraton Praha), Copenhagen (Copenhagen Half Marathon), Cardiff (Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon) and Valencia (Medio Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP).

In autumn you may run Lisbon Marathon and Half Marathon (EDP Maratona de Lisboa).

In 2020 the Lisbon Half Marathon was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

The half marathon race of 13.1mi/21.097km starts at 8:30 21 November 2021 (Sunday) from the Tolls’ Square of the 25 de Abril Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) on the left (south) bank of the Tagus (Tejo) river in Almada.

6.2mi/10km Race (Vodafone 10k)

The 6.2mi/10km race starts at 9:30 20 November 2021 (Saturday) from the Tolls’ Square of the 25 de Abril Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) on the left (south) bank of the Tagus (Tejo) river in Almada.

Course

The course of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021 begins in Almada on the Southern bank of the river Tagus (Tejo). The route crosses the river by the 25 de Abril Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) and runs along the Tagus till Algés.

Highlights of the course:

  • Sanctuary of Christ the King (Cristo Rei) in Almada,
  • railway and ferry station Cais do Sodré,
  • cultural centre Tejo Power Station, aka Electricity Museum (Museu da Electricidade),
  • Monument to Discoveries (Monumento dos Descobrimentos) in Belém,
  • Belém Tower (Torre de Belém), 16th-century fortification, a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site;
  • Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, example of the Portuguese Late Gothic Manueline style.

Start for all Sunday races of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021 is from the Tolls’ Square of the 25 de Abril Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) on the left (south) bank of the Tagus (Tejo) river in Almada.

The finish is at Praça do Império in front of the Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) in Belém.

Time limit for completing the half marathon is 3 hours.

6 water and nutrition stations are located on the half marathon route. The stations provide runners with drinking water Água de Luso, isotonic drink Powerade, energy gel, banana from Madeira. Finishers also get ice-cream.

21 November 2021 (Sunday) the Lisbon public transport (subway, buses and trains) is free for race participants (by presenting their bib numbers).To get to the starting line you need to use the Fertagus train to arrive to the Pragal station and then walk about 2km.

The route of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). The event is one of the World Athletics Label Road Races.

The online registration is open till the slots last.

If slots are available you may sign up for the races 18—20 November 2021 (Thursday — Saturday) at the Expo of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021 — Feira do Desporto e Lazer at the hall Tejo of Altice Arena (Sala Tejo da Altice Arena, Rossio dos Olivais, 1990-2331 Lisboa).

The entry fee for the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021 increases from €60 as the race date approach.

You may switch from half marathon to 10km distance 18—20 November 2021 (Thursday — Saturday) at the Expo of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021.

You may authorize another person to collect your Race Pack. The collecting person needs to present a copy of your ID, your confirmation letter.

No health certificate is required to enter any race of the Lisbon Half Marathon (EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa) 2021.
