The Auckland Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Auckland, New Zealand. The official name of the event is ASB Auckland Marathon. About 14.000 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.619 runners completed marathon and 4.628 finished half marathon in 2020).

The Auckland Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The Auckland Marathon 2021 is a qualifying event for the Abbott WMM Wanda Age group World Championships.

The Auckland Marathon 2021 was postponed from October 2021 to January 2022 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Course

The course of the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) 2021 tracks besides the Rangitoto Channel and many Auckland’s bays, from Devonport on Auckland’s North Shore to the Viaduct Harbour with an out and back section along Auckland City’s waterfront towards St Helier’s Bay, where the runners turn back. The route crosses the Waitematā Harbour over the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

The start of the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) and Half Marathon (Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon) 2021 is on King Edward Parade in Devonport, overlooking the Waitematā Harbour.

The finish line of all the races of ASB Auckland Marathon 2021 is on Fanshawe Street in Victoria Park of Auckland.

The Auckland Marathon and Half Marathon 2021 participants are self-seeded in the start corrals based on expected finish times.

The time limit for completing the marathon is 7 hours and 6 hours for the half marathon. Additional limits are applied for certain points of the course. The finish closes at 13:00.

The pace makers of the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) and Half Marathon (Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon) 2021 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. The pace makers can be identified by their event gear and air balloons marked with the corresponding finish time. Finish times for marathon are following: 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00 hours. These are half marathon target times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20 hours.

11 water and nutrition stations are located at the marathon route and 5 at the half marathon route. The stations provide runners with drinking water, PURE Electrolyte Hydration, Coke.

23 January 2022 (Sunday), you may leave your personal belongings at the gear check near the start line. The stuff must be packed in a clear event-issued deposit bag, you should attach to your bag a tag that has your race number on it. The bag and the tag are included in your Race Pack along with your bib number. The bags are transported to the finishing area. Participants may retrieve their checked bags after the finish till 13:00.

The routes of the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) and Half Marathon (Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon) 2021 are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

You may sign up for races of ASB Auckland Marathon 2021 online.

The online registration is open till 19 January 2022 or till the slots last.

You must register by 12 December 2021 to get your name on your bib number.

The entry fee for the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
from 25 February to 14 April 2021 — €91 (NZD 150),
from 15 April to 16 June 2021 — €100 (NZD 165),
from 17 June to 1 December 2021 — €112 (NZD 185),
from 1 December 2021 to 16 January 2022 — €121 (NZD 200),
17—22 January 2022 — €133 (NZD 220).

The entry fee for the Auckland Half Marathon (Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon) 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
from 25 February to 14 April 2021 — €73 (NZD 120),
from 15 April to 16 June 2021 — €79 (NZD 130),
from 17 June to 1 December 2021 — €88 (NZD 145),
from 1 December 2021 to 16 January 2022 — €97 (NZD 160),
17—22 January 2022 — €106 (NZD 175).

Special entry price is available for New Zealand students.

Through 12 December 2021, you may withdraw from the race and get 22—45 % entry fee refund.

Till 19 January 2022, you may transfer your registration to another person for a fee of €17 (NZD 27), or switch to another distance (with surcharge if applicable) if slots are available. More info is here.

You may authorize another person to collect your Race Pack. The collecting person needs to present a copy of your photo ID and your confirmation email.

No health certificate is required to enter any race of the Auckland Marathon (ASB Auckland Marathon) 2021. Participants sign a waiver.
