The Canberra Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Canberra, Australia. The official name of the event is The Canberra Times Marathon Festival. About 6.500 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.013 runners completed marathon and 2.105 finished half marathon in 2019).

The Canberra Times Marathon Festival, established in 1976, is said to be the oldest city marathon in Australia.

Canberra races were omitted in 2000 and 2010.

In 2020 The Canberra Times Marathon Festival was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The Canberra Marathon Virtual was held in November 2020.

6.2mi/10km Race (10K Run)

The 6.2mi/10km race starts at 7:00 11 April 2021 (Sunday) from King George Terrace, Parkes, Canberra.

No age limit. Children under the age of 13 on event day must be accompanied by an adult (with an entry fee).

Entry fee: from €38 (AUD 60) for adults, from €31 (AUD 50) for children under 18 years old, free for children under 4 years old.

A one lap course of the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) 2021 tracks through streets and parks of the Australian capital. The route crosses Lake Burley Griffin, an artificial lake in the centre of Canberra, over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and over Kings Avenue Bridge.

The start of all the races of The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2021 is on King George Terrace (Parkes, Canberra) in the vicinity of Old Parliament House, now the Museum of Australian Democracy

The finish line is close to the start, it is located at the West Lawns (Parkes Place West) near the National Rose Gardens that are in the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List.

The Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2021 participants are divided into starting blocks according to the expected finish time. The starting block is indicated by the letter on the bib number.

The time limit for completing the marathon is 6 hours, for the half marathon distance — 3 hours 40 minutes. Additional limits are applied for certain points of the course.

The pace makers of the Canberra Marathon (Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2021 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. Finish times for marathon are following: 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 hours. These are half marathon target times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10 hours.

13 water and nutrition stations are located at the marathon route and 5 at the half marathon route. The stations provide runners with drinking water, Endura Electrolyte and Endura gel.

Before the start 11 April 2021 (Sunday), you may leave your personal belongings near the Start Line. The stuff must be packed in your own bag, marked with a sticker that has your race number on it.

The routes of the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2021 are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Registration

You may sign up for races of The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2021 online.

The online registration is open till 8 April 2021.

The entry fee for the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) 2021 increases from €84 (AUD 140) as the race date approaches.

The entry fee for the Canberra Half Marathon 2021 increases from €70 (AUD 112) as the race date approaches.

Till 28 March 2021, you may withdraw from the event with admin fee of €7 (AUD 10), the rest of your entry fee may be used in 1 year period to sign up for Sole Motive owned events. Until 28 March 2021, you may transfer your registration to another person with admin fee of €7 (AUD 10) or switch to another distance. More info is here.
