The Canberra Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Canberra, Australia. The official name of the event is The Canberra Times Marathon Festival. About 6.500 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (1.168 runners completed marathon and 2.270 finished half marathon in 2021).

The Canberra Times Marathon Festival, established in 1976, is said to be the oldest city marathon in Australia.

Canberra races were omitted in 2000 and 2010, virtual races were held in 2020.

Entry fee: €45—48 (AUD 70—75) for adults, €38—41 (AUD 60—65) for runners under 18 years old.

A one lap course of the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) 2022 tracks through streets and parks of the Australian capital. The route crosses Lake Burley Griffin, an artificial lake in the centre of Canberra, over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and over Kings Avenue Bridge.

The start of all the races of The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2022 is on King George Terrace (Parkes, Canberra) in the vicinity of Old Parliament House, now the Museum of Australian Democracy

The finish line is close to the start, it is located at the West Lawns (Parkes Place West) near the National Rose Gardens that are in the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List.

The Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2022 participants are divided into starting blocks according to the expected finish time. The starting block is indicated by the letter on the bib number.

The time limit for completing the marathon is 6 hours, for the half marathon distance — 3 hours 40 minutes. Additional limits are applied for certain points of the course.

The pace makers of the Canberra Marathon (Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2022 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. Finish times for marathon are following: 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15 hours. These are half marathon target times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10 hours.

13 water and nutrition stations are located at the marathon route and 5 at the half marathon route. The stations provide runners with drinking water, Endura Electrolyte and Endura gel.

Before the start 10 April 2022 (Sunday), you may leave your personal belongings in the Event Village (Parkes Place West Lawns, Canberra). The stuff must be packed in your own bag, marked with a sticker that has your race number on it.

The routes of the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) and Half Marathon 2022 are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Registration

You may sign up for races of The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2022 online.

The online registration is open till 7 April 2022.

If slots are available you may sign up for the races 8—10 April 2022 (Friday—Sunday, including the race day) at the Event Village (Parkes Place West Lawns, Canberra).

You must register by 17 February 2022 to get your name on your bib number.

The entry fee for the Canberra Marathon (The Canberra Times Marathon Festival) 2022 varies depending on the date of purchase:
from 16 December 2021 to 24 February 2022 — €96 (AUD 150),
from 25 February 2022 — €109 (AUD 170).

The entry fee for the Canberra Half Marathon 2022 varies depending on the date of purchase:
from 16 December 2021 to 24 February 2022 — €74 (AUD 115),
from 25 February 2022 — €83 (AUD 130).

Till 10 March 2022, you may withdraw from the event with admin fee of €7 (AUD 10), the rest of your entry fee may be used in 1 year period to sign up for Sole Motive owned events. Until 8 April 2022, you may transfer your registration to another person with admin fee of €7 (AUD 10) or switch to another distance. More info is here.

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

To enter any race of The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2022 runners over 12 years old must show a proof of vaccination status.
