The Stavanger Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held in Stavanger, Norway. The official name of the event is Stavanger Marathon. About 1.500 athletes take part in marathon race and other competitions (166 runners completed marathon and 328 finished half marathon in 2020).

The marathon race of 26.2mi/42.195km starts at 9:00 28 August 2021 (Saturday) in front of Stavanger Cathedral (Stavanger domkirke).

Course

A one lap course of the Stavanger Marathon 2021 tracks through the streets of Stavanger, the oil capital of Norway, near Breiavatnet and Stokkavatnet lakes, along the shores of the Gandsfjorden and Hafrsfjord fjords, around Mosvatnet and Hålandsvatnet lakes. Runners can see the monument Swords in Rock (Sverd i fjell) — three 10-meter swords on the bank of the Hafrsfjord. They commemorate the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord which took place there in IX century.

The course of the Stavanger Half Marathon 2021 coincides with the first part of the marathon route.

Start and finish for the Stavanger Marathon and Half Marathon 2021 is in front of Stavanger Cathedral (Stavanger domkirke), the oldest cathedral in Norway.

Time limit for completing the marathon is 6 hours, for the half marathon distance — 3 hours 30 minutes.

The pace makers of the Stavanger Marathon and Half Marathon 2021 provide the necessary pace in order to finish within a certain time. The pace makers can be recognized by their outfits and flags marked with the corresponding finish time. Target times for marathon are 3:30, 4:00, 4:30 hours, for half marathon — 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30 hours.

Water and nutrition stations are located every 4-5km of the route and at the finish. The stations provide runners with drinking water, isotonic drink, fruit, Cola.

Before the start you may leave your personal belongings in the deposit tents near the start zone.

The route of the Stavanger Marathon 2021 is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Registration

You may sign up for races of the Stavanger Marathon 2021 online.

The online registration is open till 28 August 2021.

The entry fee for the Stavanger Marathon 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 22 September 2020 — €47 (NOK 522);
from 23 September till 31 December 2020 — €54 (NOK 580);
from 1 January till 30 April 2021 — €64 (NOK 680);
from 1 May till 28 August 2021 — €73 (NOK 780).

The entry fee for the Stavanger Half Marathon 2021 varies depending on the date of purchase:
till 22 September 2020 — €41 (NOK 432);
from 23 September till 31 December 2020 — €45 (NOK 480);
from 1 January till 30 April 2021 — €54 (NOK 580);
from 1 May till 28 August 2021 — €64 (NOK 680).

A license of the Norwegian Athletics Association (Norges Friidrettsforbund) is required to participate in the races, it is extra paid €3—5 (NOK 30—50) while registering.

You may transfer your registration to another person or switch to another distance. More info is here.

Your Marathon or Half Marathon Race Entry includes:

You may pick up the Race Pack with your bib number at the Expo of the Stavanger Marathon 2021 in Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel (Olav V s gate 3, 4005 Stavanger).
Pick-up desks schedule:
27 August 2021 (Friday) from 12:00 till 18:30,
28 August 2021 (Saturday) on race day from 7:30.

To get your Race Pack you should show your ID with photo, confirmation letter (sent via e-mail).

No health certificate is required to enter any race of the Stavanger Marathon 2021.
